Lauki, or bottle gourd, is a summer staple for many, and for good reason. Regulation of blood pressure and blood sugars, decrease in cholesterol levels and thereby a decrease in heart diseases is also known to occur with consistent lauki juice intake, according to Dr Gude. Urinary tract infections are also less common in those drinking lauki extracts . In summers, especially, there can be cooling/antipyretic effects, said Dr Gude Quenches thirst: Lauki is primarily composed of water, making it an excellent hydrator. Regular consumption can help replenish fluids lost through sweat, preventing dehydration. Cooling sensation: Lauki has a natural cooling effect on the body, providing relief from the scorching summer heat. It can help regulate body temperature and prevent heatstroke. Improved digestion: The high fibre content in lauki aids digestion by promoting regular bowel movements and preventing constipation. Reduced acidity: Lauki juice has alkaline properties that can help neutralize stomach acid, providing relief from heartburn and indigestion, according to Dr Gude. Appetite control: The fibre in lauki helps you feel fuller for longer, reducing cravings and aiding in weight management, Dr Gude said. Low calorie content: Lauki is low in calories, making it a guilt-free option for those watching their weight. Hydrated skin: The high water content in lauki helps keep your skin hydrated from within, promoting a healthy and glowing complexion. Decreases hair thinning: thinning of hair/balding/greying etc may be improved with lauki juice intake, said Dr Gude. Reduced inflammation: Some studies suggest that lauki may have anti-inflammatory properties, which can benefit skin conditions like acne and eczema. Blood sugar control: Lauki has a low glycemic index, making it suitable for people with diabetes. Kidney health: The diuretic properties of lauki can help support kidney function by flushing out toxins. Electrolyte balance: Lauki contains essential electrolytes like potassium, which helps maintain fluid balance in the body.
