United States Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is believed to have accumulated her wealth by investing her earnings from public service, and collecting book royalties. According to Forbes, 60-year-old Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff's net worth is around $8 million. Harris spent most of her working life in the government. She first became the district attorney in San Francisco and then served as the attorney general of California and as a US senator before she became the running mate of Joe Biden in 2020. Harris was the district attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2010 and earned $200,000 a year in her final years in the office, as per Forbes. Also Read: What is the 'blue wall'? In 2016, the presidential candidate was elected to the Senate and was paid a salary of $174,000 a year. While in the office of the country's vice president, Harris earned $235,100 a year. According to the latest disclosure of the asset report, Harris has invested millions in passively managed index funds. Harris has shown investment in eight different funds as part of two deferred compensation plans which were accrued when she was employed in California. According to Forbes, she was also a participant in some defined benefit pension plans, which are worth less than $1 million. Emhoff showed his 30-plus investments, which were in different funds and were passively managed. The cash holdings disclosed by both Harris and Emhoff were $850,000. In the disclosure, Harris and Emhoff were shown holding a family trust called The KDH/DCE Family Trust. As part of the author's royalties, Harris has earned more than $500,00 from the books she has written, which include "Smart on Crime," the 2019 children's book "Superheroes are Everywhere," and her 2019 memoir, "The Truths We Hold."
