Sometimes, US election results are declared within hours of the polls closing, however, this year's elections could lead to a longer wait due to the tight race between the two candidates. The first polls are scheduled to close at 6:00 EST on Tuesday evening, and the last at 01:00 EST early on Wednesday. Meanwhile, local polls may have different hours. In some of the past presidential races, the victory has been announced late on election night, or early the next morning. However, this year, the neck-to-neck race in many states could mean a longer wait for the victory announcement. Moreover, narrow victories between the two candidates could also lead to recounts. In the last presidential election in 2020, it took four days for President Joe Biden to be declared the winner. Meanwhile, in 2016, Trump's victory was announced in the early hours of the morning of the day after elections.
