The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced the date for the rescheduled Preliminary Test (PT) at Patna's Bapu Examination Center, which had been previously cancelled. The exam is now set to take place on January 4. The announcement of the new date comes three days after the commission had cancelled the 70th prelims examination at the centre which was held on December 13. As per an official, around 6,500 students had appeared for the exam at this centre. The preliminary examination was cancelled at this centre due to the death of an official on duty because of a heart attack following a ruckus created by “unruly” candidates on December 13. The incident took place at the Bapu Pariksha Parisar in Patna’s Kumhrar locality, which was one of the more than 900 centres for the Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination (CCE). The situation escalated as a large crowd gathered outside the centre, prompting police intervention to restore order. The aftermath of the unrest was tragic. Ram Iqbal Singh, an additional examination superintendent, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during the commotion, while a woman candidate collapsed and required medical attention. In response to the incident, the Patna district administration recommended invoking stringent charges, including murder, against individuals who attempted to disrupt the examination. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the alleged paper leak and the events that followed. It should be noted here that the 70th BPSC Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination was held on December 13 It will recruit candidates for Group A and B posts. Around five lakh candidates appeared for the exam, which was conducted across 925 centres. The BPSC also clarified that no 'normalisation process' would be followed in the exam for which students were protesting.
