Is Centre considering an early retirement scheme for central govt employees? Here’s what Ministry of Personnel has to say

The central government has clarified its stance on the possibility of introducing a flexible retirement age for its employees. This clarification came in response to a written query raised by Member of Parliament Tejveer Singh in the Rajya Sabha. Singh sought information on whether the government is planning an early retirement scheme for central government employees and its potential impact. Addressing this, Minister of State in the PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, stated that there is no such proposal under consideration. The MP also inquired whether the government has formulated any scheme to increase the retirement age for employees who wish to retire later and the conditions for such a scheme. To this, the minister reiterated that no plans or proposals have been formulated to allow late retirement for central government employees. These provisions are outlined under the Central Civil Services ( Pension ) Rules, 2021, and the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, among others. “The central government employees who fulfil the prescribed criteria have the option to seek early retirement available to them under Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021, All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, etc,” the minister said in its response. The clarification underscores that while the government provides structured avenues for early retirement, broader changes to the retirement age framework are not currently on the agenda. None
