Apple to make the iPhone 16 Pro models in India: Report

Edited By: Pranav Sawant Published: Jul 27, 2024, 09:59 AM IST Apple has been making the base iPhones in India for some time now. The latest iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are made in India and the older base 14 was also made in India. While we have seen Apple assembling these models in India, the company has been making the Pro models in factories out of the country, such as China. Now, however, that may change as the Californian giant is said to build iPhone Pros in India. More specifically, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will reportedly be made in India. According to Moneycontrol , Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could be assembled in India, as Apple tries to deepen its manufacturing capabilities with partners in India. Apple has been in discussions of diversifying its production beyond China, and that may happen with the production of iPhone 16 Pros. Interestingly, Apple may begin making the upcoming Pro models locally as early as this year. Launching India-made Pros at launch is unlikely, but we may see those sometime later if we go by the news. That said, the iPhone 16 Pro at launch will likely be the imported unit, however, the India-made Pro could be made available within this fiscal year. Apple is reported to make the iPhone 16 Pro models at Foxconn’s facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. As per the report, Apple may start the ‘new product introduction’ (NPI) process soon for the Pros. The mass production of the phones may begin after the device launches in September/October. For the unversed, made-in-India iPhone 15s were available on the first day of launch in the country. These units were also shipped globally. The older base iPhone 14s and iPhone 13s were also made in India sometime after their initial release. Although Apple has yet to confirm the news about making the iPhone 16 Pros in India, even if it does, do not expect a massive reduction in the prices. We’ll have to see how the pricing scene plays out. In other news about Apple, the company recently announced a price cut on iPhones in India. The base iPhones have received a mere Rs 300 price cut, whereas, the Pros have got up to Rs 6,000 price cut. This comes in the wake of a reduction in custom duty on mobile phones, chargers, and other components, as per the Union Budget 2024. After the price cut, the iPhone 15 starts at Rs 79,600, down from the Rs 79,900 launch price. The iPhone 15 Plus costs Rs 89,600, Rs 300 cheaper than the Rs 89,900 launch price. The iPhone 15 Pro now starts at Rs 1,29,800, down from Rs 1,34,900. Lastly, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is now priced at Rs 1,54,000, down from Rs 1,59,900. Author Name | Pranav Sawant None
