Janmashtami Bank Holiday Details : Will public and private sector banks be closed on Monday, August 26, for Janmashtami? Commercial banks will be closed in a number of cities on August 26 to mark the occasion of Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8) or Krishna Jayanthi, according to the RBI's website - rbi.org.in. However, banks will continue to operate in the national capital and Mumbai, according to the RBI portal. Also, the capital, money and commodity markets will function normally, according to the websites of exchanges. The cities that will observe a market holiday on August 26 are: Lucknow and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Ahmedabad in Gurarat, Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Bhubaneswar in Odisha, Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Gangtok in Sikkim, Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Chennai – Tamil Nadu, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Gangtok in Sikkim, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Kolkata in West Bengal, Patna in Bihar, Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Ranchi in Jharkhand, Shillong in Meghalaya, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Srinagar and Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir, and Chandigarh. Janmashtami is the last bank holiday in August 2024. The RBI recognises bank holidays in three categories: Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.
