Born November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Joe Biden was raised a devout Catholic and is only the second Catholic US President after John F. Kennedy. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware and a law degree from Syracuse University. Biden started his political career in 1970, at 27 years of age, when he was elected to public office as a council member of the New Castle County Council. He served in office for two years. In November 1972, at the age of 29 years, he was elected as the Delaware senator. Just a month after he was elected to the US Senate, he lost his wife Neilia Biden and one-year-old daughter, Naomi, in an automobile accident. His sons Beau and Hunter were also in the vehicle. While they were injured, they survived the tragic accident.
