Delhi govt to tighten admission rules to curb illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya migrant enrollments

The Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has recently issued a significant directive aimed at tightening the admission procedures across government, government-aided and unaided recognised private schools. This move is targeted at preventing the illegal enrollment of Bangladeshi migrants in schools, thereby addressing concerns about unauthorised entries into the educational system. In an official order, the DoE emphasised the importance of a meticulous admission process, particularly when enrolling migrant children. The order mandates school heads to ensure that all necessary documents are submitted and thoroughly verified during the admission process. This step is critical to maintaining the integrity of the educational system and preventing potential misuse of resources. The directive explicitly states: “All the Heads of Govt., Govt. Aided & Unaided Recognized Private Schools of DoE are directed to ensure that when admitting migrant children into schools, it is essential to follow a thorough careful process to ensure that all necessary documentation is submitted, verified and handled properly.” Furthermore, the order highlights the procedure to be followed in cases where doubts arise regarding the authenticity of the documents or the eligibility of the applicants. “All the Heads of Govt, Govt Aided & Unaided Recognised Private Schools of DoE are further directed that in case of any doubt, the matter must be referred to local police and revenue authority,” it adds. This directive comes in response to concerns raised over illegal migration and its implications on the education system. By ensuring strict adherence to documentation and verification procedures, the Delhi government aims to bolster accountability and safeguard the resources allocated for genuine beneficiaries.
