Aamir Khan says he was about to quit acting before Sitaare Zamen Par, but stopped

Aamir Khan is gearing up for his upcoming movie Sitaare Zameen Par , the movie will mark Khan's return to the big screen after two years. During his appearance on Rhea Chakraborty's podcast on YouTube, the 59-year-old actor talked about his upcoming movie and how he was about to decline it. Saying that he had a lot of fun while working in the movie, Aamir said, "Jab maine Sitaare Zameen Par shuru ki toh ki us mood mein kiya ki koi baat nahin...aur Sitaare abhi complete ho gayi hai. Sitaare mein bahot mazaa aaya kaam karke. Bahot kamaal ki film hai (Sitaare Zameen Par is now complete. I loved working on the film. It's a great movie)." Initially, Khan said that he decided to quit films and was about to leave the project. During the chat, Aamir revealed that he called director R.S Prasanna to inform him that he would not be able to act and that he should look for another actor. Khan said that he didn't want to make an official statement on his retirement as he thought that it might create a lot of drama. However, before informing the director, Khan said he sat with his kids Junaid and Ira Khan, who stopped him from leaving the films. During the same interview, the actor said that during Covid he had thought of leaving acting and even decided to leave his production company. Sharing how his family reacted, Aamir said in Hindi, “When I told them three years ago that I am quitting films, their reaction according to me was, ‘Papa, how will you quit films? You’ve been involved like crazy for the past 30 years. You must be emotional right now and saying this. But you will not be able to do it.’ They just nodded and said okay. Then I called my team, my production team… which had Kiran [Rao] as well. I said that I do not need this company anymore because I am not going to make films. But you are all in the same profession and want to make films, so I want you to take the company from me and make films.” The actor shared that his former wife Kiran Rao even started crying after he told him his plan to leave acting. On the work front, Aamir has recently co-produced Kiran's Laapataa Ladies , the movie was well-received by critics and audiences alike. The actor will next be seen on Sitaare Zameen Par.
