Mariah Carey is currently heartbroken by the deaths of both mother and sister on the same day over the weekend. Mariah Carey, according to her representative, is in a state of shock as she lost not one but two family members on the same day. Mariah’s mother and sister died on the same day, over the weekend. Her representative confirmed the news on Monday. While she did not share the cause of their deaths, she urged people to be a little sensitive towards the situation and give the singer some privacy to mourn the loss of her mother and sister. The rep urged people to “respect her privacy” during this “impossible time.” In a short statement shared with People, Mariah Carey said, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.” “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she added. Mariah Carey was not very close to her family, The five-time Grammy Award winner lost her father to a rare form of cancer in 2002. Her parents were divorced and they lived separately since when she was just three years old. In her memoir, Mariah Carey opened up about her strained relationship with her mother. In The Meaning of Mariah Carey memoir, she said, “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It's never been only black-and-white — it's been a whole rainbow of emotions.” Mariah also didn’t share a warm relationship with her brother, Morgan Carey and late sister Alison Carey. “For my sanity and peace of mind, my therapist encouraged me to literally rename and reframe my family. My mother became Pat to me, Morgan my ex-brother and Alison my ex-sister... I had to stop expecting them to one day miraculously become the mommy, big brother and big sister I fantasised about,” she wrote.
