Rapper Snoop Dogg carries Olympic torch through Paris ahead of opening ceremony; see viral pics and videos

Olympics 2024: In addition to his torch-bearing duties, Snoop will serve as a correspondent for NBC during the Olympics. Snoop Dogg, the 52-year-old rapper, danced through the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, carrying the Olympic torch before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics on Friday (July 26). In a video shared on the Paris Olympics' Instagram, Snoop, clad in a white Olympics tracksuit and gold sneakers, is seen receiving the flame from the previous torchbearer. He then danced his way through the streets while waving to fans. "It was emotional for all of us to see the champ holding that torch and walking up there. This is my own version of it," Snoop told NBC sportscaster Mike Tirico. "I don’t want to get too emotional, but I know that this is special." Snoop also addressed the criticism of an American carrying the torch for the Paris Games. "This says a lot about America as far as where we’re at in this world," he said. "At the same time, it says a lot about France as far as connecting the dots and allowing me to do this. I look at this as a prestigious honour and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of anything like this." I’ll be able to breathe slow, to walk fast, and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realise how prestigious this event is." In addition to his torch-bearing duties, Snoop will serve as a correspondent for NBC during the Olympics. He will provide colour commentary during primetime broadcasts, explore Paris, and interact with Olympians and their support teams. "He’ll explore the city’s iconic landmarks, attend Olympic competitions and events, and visit with the athletes, their friends, and families," the network said.
