50 lakh vehicles have crossed Atal Setu in 7 months

Over 50 lakh vehicles have crossed the Atal Setu, since it was opened to traffic on January 13, 2024 after being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a day before. Commenting on the bridge’s impact, Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), stated, “The Atal Setu’s successful operation has significantly improved Mumbai’s traffic flow. The fact that over 50 lakh vehicles have used the bridge since its inauguration highlights its critical role in the city’s infrastructure.” The 21.5 km long Atal Setu is expected to significantly enhance connectivity between South Mumbai and several key regions, including the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. Furthermore, the under-construction Worli-Sewri elevated road is nearing completion at 75% and is set to provide a rapid 5 to 10-minute route from Worli Sea Face to the bridge. Additionally, the ongoing construction of an elevated road between the Chirle Interchange and the Mumbai- Pune Expressway is expected to facilitate quicker travel between South Mumbai, the western suburbs, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Pune, and the Mumbai- Goa Highway, as per the MMRDA.
