Paris Olympics Day 1 Live Updates: Shooting action from 12:30 PM IST; Djokovic, Alcaraz in Round 1 singles; Fiji gunning for Rugby gold

Olympic Games Paris 2024, Day 1 Live: After a resplendent evening on the Seine, the Paris Games will be underway with sporting action on Saturday with a host of international and Indian athletes opening their campaigns. The opening day is set to host some of the biggest names with Ariarne Titmus, Katie Ledecky and Summer McIntosh clashing in the pool during the women’s 400m freestyle. 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will begin his bid for a first Olympic gold at the iconic Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros. Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek will also be up in singles action before the young Spaniard pairs up with Roland Garros legend Rafael Nadal in the men’s doubles. The opening day will also witness gold-medal contests in shooting, diving, cycling road, judo, skateboarding, rugby 7s and swimming. Fiji will be running for a third successive Rugby 7s gold as they face Australia in the semi-finals before the final slated for later this evening. Shooting will begin at 12:30 PM IST with the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team qualification , including Indians (Ramita-Arjun, Elavenil-Sandeep). Victor Wembanyama and hosts France will begin their Olympic basketball campaign against Brazil at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille. France had lost the gold to US in Tokyo. Meanwhile, NBA champion Giannis Antetokounmpo will be in action for Greece against Canada. TENNIS: Men’s & Women’s first-round Alcaraz, Djokovic, Swiatek & Co: From 3.30 pm IST Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic are the main attractions on Court Philippe-Chatrier as the Roland Garros venue plays hosts for tennis at the Olympics. Red-hot Carlos Alcaraz also begins his campaign, with Swiatek and the Spaniard hoping to repeat their French Open feats shortly after. Rafa Nadal is also slated to play doubles with Alcaraz later in the night, but fitness concerns loom for the veteran. SWIMMING: Women’s 400m freestyle final: 0.22 am IST (July 28) Titmus vs Ledecky vs McIntosh In what is already being hyped up as potentially The Race of the Paris Olympic Games, American superstar Katie Ledecky will go up against Australia’s Ariarne Titmus, where Canada’s Summer McIntosh is also one to watch out for in the women’s 400m freestyle.
