The government revealed on Thursday that 102 aircraft are currently grounded due to supply chain disruptions. Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, informed the Lok Sabha about the challenges faced by airlines, emphasising the need for a robust ecosystem for aircraft manufacturing in the country. The aviation industry has been grappling with supply chain issues, especially after the coronavirus pandemic and due to certain geopolitical developments. These disruptions have significantly impacted the availability of spare parts and consumables required to keep aircraft airworthy. Minister Murlidhar Mohol stated that aircraft operating in India are regularly inspected to ensure compliance with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations. Airlines are also compelled to withdraw aircraft from service when spare parts and consumables from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are unavailable. “There are a total of 822 aircraft registered under Scheduled Air Transport Service, out of which 105 aircraft are Aircraft on Ground (AOG) due to supply chain issues,” Mohol said in his written reply. The government is actively working to address these challenges by encouraging the development of an ecosystem for aircraft manufacturing within the country. This initiative includes fostering the production of regional transport aircraft and associated equipment by both public and private enterprises. India remains one of the fastest-growing civil aviation markets in the world, with a rapidly expanding fleet and increasing demand for air travel . The development of a robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem could help mitigate supply chain issues and enhance the industry’s resilience in the future. None
