With yellow alert, IMD forecasts light to moderate rain in Delhi for next 2 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain for the next two days in Delhi. It has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light rain or thunderstorm on Monday in its seven-day forecast. On Monday, the Safdarjung base station recorded a minimum temperature of 29.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, and the maximum temperature on Sunday was 36.6 degrees Celsius, which is also two notches above normal. The cumulative rainfall from Sunday 8.30 am to Monday 8.30 am was observed to be none at Safdarjung and trace (too small to be measured) at Palam. While the Ridge station logged 1.2 mm, Pitampura recorded 2 mm and SPS Mayur Vihar 5 mm of rain during the period. While light spells of rain in isolated places occurred in Delhi on Sunday, the relative humidity oscillated between 70 and 84 per cent. With a departure of six per cent at 8.30 am observed at the Safdarjung base station, the relative humidity remained high on Monday. At the same time, the Safdarjung station has received deficit rain because the monthly rainfall logged so far is 86.8 mm, far less than the normal value of 143.4 mm. At 11.30 am, the IMD’s regional weather forecast station said in an X post, “Moderate rainfall accompanied with moderate thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at NCR (Ballabhgarh), Palwal (Haryana), Khatauli, Sakoti Tanda, Hastinapur, Daurala, Meerut (U.P.) Light to moderate rainfall is very likely to occur at few places of Delhi (Narela, Alipur, Burari, Delhi University, Civil Lines, Pashchim Vihar, Kashmiri Gate, Rajauri Garden, Red fort, Budha Jayanti Park, Dwarka, Delhi Cantt, Palam) Yamunanagar, Panipat, Gannaur, Sonipat (Haryana) Saharanpur, Deoband, Nazibabad, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnaur, Chandpur, Baraut, Modinagar, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Raya, Mathura (U.P.) during next 2 hours.” Earlier, at 9.40 am, the regional office warned in an X post, “Light to moderate rainfall is very likely to occur at, NCR (Chhapraula, Noida, Greater Noida) Yamunanagar, Panipat (Haryana) Saharanpur, Gangoh, Deoband, Nazibabad, Muzaffarnagar, Khatauli, Sakoti Tanda, Hastinapur, Daurala, Shikarpur (U.P.) during next 2 hours.” The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to drop to 34 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively, till Thursday.
