Rajasthan Education Minister says some school teachers ‘wear inappropriate clothing, show their body’, Opp lashes out

Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar’s comments regarding the attire of some teachers and his claim that many of them come to school drunk have caused a controversy, with the Congress and a teachers’ association strongly criticising the minister. Inaugurating an upper primary Sanskrit School building at Narsinghpuri village in Neem Ka Thana on Wednesday, Dilawar said: “Maine kai madamon ko dekhta hun jo sahi kapde nahin pehanti aur pura sharir dikhate hue school mein jaati hain. Isse bacchon par achcha prabhav nahin padta. Unhen sochna chahiye ki main shikshika hun aur dhang ke kapde pehanne chahiye (I have seen some teachers going to school wearing inappropriate clothing, showing their whole bodies. This does not have a good impact on our children. They should understand that they are teachers and wear appropriate clothing). He also claimed that many teachers come to school drunk. “Those who do such acts are not teachers, they are enemies of children. It is a sin to call them teachers,” he said. He further commented that teachers take breaks from school to do puja or perform namaz. “Some teachers leave the school saying ‘Sir, I have to go to worship at the Bhairuji temple… or I must perform namaz. Are these teachers being given salary for doing puja-paath or namaz? … Do it at your home and do not waste school time,” Dilawar said. Objecting strongly to the comments, a school teachers’ association, Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Shikshak Evam Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh, called on Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to intervene. “I would request the CM, Bhajan Lal Sharma, to take action against the statement. If not, the Rajasthan Education Department will lose whatever respect it has in this country,” said Narayan Sisodia, the spokesperson for the association. The Rajasthan Congress also condemned Dilawar’s remarks. In a post on X, the official account of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee said: “It has become the habit of the Education Minister to insult teachers, defame them and embarrass them by making unrestrained comments every day. The Education Minister, who is mentally bankrupt, should apologise, or the Chief Minister should dismiss him from the Cabinet.” None
