3 Army personnel injured in exchange of fire in J&K’s Kupwara

Three Army personnel were injured in a gunfight with militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday, days after a soldier was killed in the same area. The clash erupted when security forces detected militant movement near the Kumkhadi post in the Machil sector. When the forces challenged the militants, the latter opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the security forces. An official quoted by PTI stated, “Some exchange of fire took place near the Kumkadi post in the Trehgam sector of the north Kashmir district.” The ongoing operation has resulted in injuries to three Army personnel, he said. Further details are awaited as the operation is ongoing. This week alone, Jammu and Kashmir has seen two gunfights between militants and the Indian Army. On Wednesday, one soldier and a militant were killed in Kupwara. And earlier in the week, a gunfight in Rajouri district led to the death of one militant and minor injuries to a soldier and a civilian. Additionally, on July 16, four Army personnel, including a Captain, were killed in an encounter with militants in the Koti forests of Doda district. The recent increase in attacks across the Jammu region is believed to involve a “fresh batch of terrorists” who infiltrated in the past six months, including fighters from Pakistan’s Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions. Many of these infiltrators are suspected to be recruits of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Amid these developments, Prime Minister Modi marked the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on Friday with a stern message to Pakistan. Speaking at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, Modi declared that Pakistan’s attempts to use terrorism and proxy wars to stay relevant would be met with full force. He emphasised that “falsehood and terror” were defeated by truth in the 1999 Kargil War. None
