Lenovo Tab Plus review: Watching movies and shows on the go has never been more fun

Apple and Samsung have been dominating the premium tablet market for quite a while now, but the mid-range segment is where innovation happens. Most companies like Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme and others have been focusing on offering products that offer a decent value for money, but Lenovo seems to have gone the other way with its newly launched Lenovo Tab Plus. Powered by the dated Helio G99 chipset, the Lenovo Tab Plus might not be as snappy compared to other tablets that cost the same, but one area where it blows away the competition is audio quality. Packing eight speakers – four tweeters and four force-balanced speakers tuned by JBL, the Lenovo Tab Plus is one of its one-of-a-kind entertainment powerhouse, but how does it fare against the competition? I used the tablet for a week to watch anime, TV shows, and movies, as well as listen to music. Here’s what I liked and disliked about Lenovo’s latest offering. Lenovo Tab Plus specs: Similar to most modern Android tablets, the Lenovo Tab Plus has a metal build with a matte finish that looks and feels premium. Despite being heavier than other 11-inch tablets, the Lenovo Tab Plus is pretty ergonomic, thanks to its unusual design. Compared to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus, which is really uncomfortable to hold with one hand, the Lenovo Tab Plus is ergonomic, meaning you can easily hold it with one hand for hours. Despite being an LCD screen, the tablet is pretty good for watching movies but as is the case with most tablets, the sun legibility is average at best. While you won’t be able to use it under direct sunlight on a sunny day, the brightness is more than enough even if you are sitting directly in front of a very bright light. On the audio front, I don’t think any other tablet comes close to the Lenovo Tab Plus. The Honor Pad 8 with its eight speakers might be loud and clear, but the bass on this tablet is on a different level. When watching movies, TV series, listening to music or podcasts, the tablet can easily fill up a small to medium-sized room. Even at maximum volume, the audio quality remains the same and at no point did I think the speakers crackled. The battery is pretty good as well. When watching the latest season of Demon Slayer (anime), the tablet lasted around 7-8 hours with the brightness set to around 50 per cent. The Lenovo Tab Plus has an 8,600mAh battery that supports 45W chagrin, meaning you can charge it up from 0 to 100 in about two hours. However, one area where Lenovo has cut corners is the performance. The Tab Plus is powered by the Helio G99 chipset, which is usually found on phones and costs somewhere around Rs 10,000. When multitasking or browsing the internet or scouring the Play Store for new apps, the tablet lags and stutters intermittently. Since the chipset is pretty old and the user interface was lagging when doing something resource-intensive, I did not bother to play modern games. However, games like Candy Crush or Clash of Clans ran smoothly without any hiccups. If you want a performance-oriented tablet that can play the latest games or run apps like Adobe Photoshop without any hiccups, I would suggest going with the likes of Xiaomi Pad 6 (review) , but if you want a large-screen device to watch movies or videos on, this is hands down one of the best budget Android tablets you can get your hands on.
