Neha Dhupia, who gave birth to son Guriq in 2021, recently impressed everyone with her fitness transformation — losing 23 kilos postpartum in one year . Opening up about the same, she credited her husband Angad Bedi, stating that he always supported her and never made her feel that she was “not beautiful”. “Not a single day of my life when I was 23 kgs up, or once I lost weight, did he make me believe that I am not beautiful. I have seen people do that. (He) Never hit below the belt. There were days when I didn’t want to show up and didn’t want to go. I stagnated for four months. Sometimes I didn’t want to go out because I didn’t feel good or just started with my diet,” Dhupia said on the Khaane Mein Kya Hai podcast. The actor added how Bedi would interrupt conversations where she was at the receiving end of pieces of advice. “He has interrupted when people would give advice and without letting me know, they changed the topic. By not offending anyone, he does that. I feel romance happens in so many strange ways. I was hurting, I was not comfortable with the excess kilos. It was not 1 or 2, it was 23 kgs. He would hold my hand tighter at parties just to say ‘I am here with you’. Probably, even going for a second workout with me just to accompany me,” Dhupia, 43, continued. Stressing that postpartum changes are real, Dhupia said, “Those bodily changes and postpartum, the mental fatigue, is real. There were times when I was having a meltdown about something so trivial. The change is not going to happen with just food, changing the trainer, or getting new gear, it can only happen with mental makeup. It takes time. Once it happens, that’s when your fitness journey begins. I miss my runs the day I don’t run. I miss my yoga sessions. I don’t miss any food. I miss my coffee. I miss 8 hours of sleep when I clock in 7 hours. Just show up every day.” As such, let’s understand how your partner can make all the difference in your fitness journey. Being assured that someone is by your side through ups and downs can lead to a sense of peace and stability, said Dr Santosh Bangar, senior consultant, psychiatrist, Gleneagles Hospitals Parel Mumbai. ” During tough times of stress or anxiety, a partner can exercise calmness and try being patient until the situation cools to avoid further problems. Being empathic, and showing comfort and understanding can help induce calmness in life,” added Dr Bangar, suggesting that such a partner can help reach any goal not just fitness and health . According to Dr Bangar, sharing or expressing thoughts, feelings, and concerns with one’s partner can significantly lighten up mental load and reduce stress which can help strive to bounce back better.
