Bollywood actor Guddi Maruti recently shared her memories of working with the late Divya Bharti , describing her as “a nice girl but a little messed up.” Reflecting on Divya’s free-spirited personality, Guddi recalled an incident where she found Divya sitting casually on the parapet of her fifth-floor apartment, showing no fear of heights. Guddi also spoke about meeting Divya’s grieving mother after her tragic death and shared how deeply the loss affected Divya’s then-husband, Sajid Nadiadwala, who was left devastated. Divya died in 1993 after falling off her apartment. She was 19. Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Guddi shared, “She was a nice girl but she was a little messed up. I don’t know her childhood but she stayed a little disturbed. She used to live life like today is the last day, bindas, she was a nice girl. At that time she was seeing Sajid Nadiadwala. This was the time we were shooting for Shola Aur Shabnam. She died on the night of April 5 and April 4 is my birthday. So, we all were partying together – Govinda , Divya, Sajid and others. She was okay at the party but I felt she was a little sad. She had to go for an outdoor shoot but she didn’t want to.” Guddi recalled hearing the tragic news of Divya’s death on the morning of April 6, while she was on a flight. Recalling another instance when she found Divya’s behaviour odd, Guddi shared, “She used to stay on the fifth floor of a building in Juhu. One night I was going inside the ice-cream store near that building and heard a voice shouting my name. I looked up and it was Divya. She was sitting on the parapet of fifth floor with her legs dangling. I told her it’s not safe and that she should get inside. She told me, ‘Kuch nahi hota (Nothing will happen).’ She wasn’t scared of heights. I got scared just looking at her.” She also shared an eerie moment when she visited Divya’s family home after her passing. While the guests offered their condolences to Divya’s grieving mother, a stray cat entered with blood on its mouth, leaving everyone in shock. “Everybody was giving condolences to Divya mom when a stray cat walked in with blood on its mouth. Everybody was shocked. It was very sad.” Talking about how Divya’s mother was in deep grief, she said, “Uske mummy ka haal bura tha (Her mother was devastated). Sajid was like… gone. He was in a bad shape. He wasn’t even home when the incident happened. Divya bent down from her window to see if Sajid’s car has come and that’s when she had fell down,” she said. She added that designer Neeta Lulla was there when the incident happened, putting paid to speculation around the actor’s death. “Neeta Lulla was there. They were talking when Divya turned looking for the car and Neeta saw her falling down,” she said. Divya Bharti was one of the most promising actors of the early 1990s, quickly rising to stardom in a short span. However, her life was tragically cut short at just 19 when she fell from the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment in Mumbai. Her untimely death shocked the industry and left her fans heartbroken.
