Ranbir Kapoor confesses he’s a foodie like dad Rishi Kapoor and grandfather Raj Kapoor, but mom Neetu ‘was always controlling’

Ranbir Kapoor has revealed that he is no exception to the traditional Kapoor family trait of being a foodie. In a recent conversation, Ranbir credited his mother’s influence for his disciplined approach to eating. Talking at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Ranbir said, “In today’s day and age, it has become an occupational hazard. (We work on a) visual medium, so you can’t let let loose. So I have had my mother’s side also, who was always controlling. She has always put it in our heads that, ‘you have to be healthy and fit, look at your family, they have so many problems and ailments.’ So I have really taken more towards my mom’s side. It’s not out of choice but because I knew that I have to be an actor and I have to look a certain way.” Ranbir’s statement is a far cry from the indulgent food habits of his family members. Rahul Rawail, a veteran filmmaker who worked with Raj Kapoor and was a close friend of Rishi Kapoor shared a rare anecdote about Rishi’s experiments with food. “I had seen your father eat a jalebi with pav (bread), and when I asked him why, he said because I want to…” Rawail shared. A post shared by SCREEN (@ieentertainment) Ranbir Kapoor also shared some heartwarming memories of his grandfather, the legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor. Recalling his childhood days, Ranbir said, “My memories of him are very personal.” He fondly remembered how his grandfather would take him and his cousins to his room and hide caramel toffees in his fridge. “He used to make us stand in a line – all the cousins, Kareena, Karishma, my sister, myself – and ask us to do ‘Salaam’ and to sing ‘Awaara Hoon’ (from Awaara, 1951),” Ranbir reminisced. Ranbir, at IFFI, announced that a film festival showcasing restored movies of his grandfather, veteran filmmaker Raj Kapoor, will be held across the country to celebrate his birth centenary in December.
