The Delhi Police arrested two shooters allegedly involved in recent firing incidents in the Capital’s Paschim Vihar and Chhawla areas after a brief exchange of fire in the early hours of Tuesday. Sachin Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Of Police (Outer Delhi), said on November 25, the Anti-Extortion Cell received a tip-off that two armed shooters – Pravesh and Pawan – believed to be involved in the firing incidents were reportedly heading to meet an associate in the Tikri Kalan area. Acting on the intelligence, a team of officers, led by Inspectors Rohit and Ritesh Raj, was formed to intercept and arrest the suspects. A joint team of the Anti-Extortion Cell and Anti-Narcotics Squad of Outer District, led by Rohit and Ritesh Raj, under the supervision of Neki Ram Lamba, Assistant Commissioner of Police, set up surveillance and spotted the two suspects on a motorcycle in the Tikri Kalan area during the intervening night of November 25 and 26. “When asked to surrender, the shooters immediately opened fire on the police. In response, the police issued a warning shot, but the suspects continued to fire, forcing the officers to retaliate in self-defence. During the exchange of gunfire, one suspect was shot in the left leg. The second suspect was also overpowered by the police and both of them were apprehended,” said DCP Sharma. He added that 2 sophisticated automatic pistols, 5 live cartridges, 3 empty magazines, and 1 stolen motorcycle were also recovered from them. Pravesh and Pawan, both aged 19 and residents of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, were arrested under sections 221, 132, 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. “During questioning, they admitted to their involvement in the firing incidents in Paschim Vihar and Chhawla on November 6. They revealed they had borrowed money and to meet its terms, resorted to the crime but claimed they never received the promised compensation,” DCP Sharma stated. He said the suspects named a third accomplice, and efforts are underway to track him down. Simultaneous investigations are ongoing to find the sources of the illegal weapons used by them, he said. On November 12, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested a member of the Rahul Baba gang, which allegedly has an alliance with the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang, from Najafgarh in connection with the two shootings in Paschim Vihar and Chhawla. Amit Kaushik, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell (Northern Range), said the arrested accused, Shivam alias Bhola, 23, had helped the attackers flee after the shootings by providing them with logistical and financial assistance. Three unidentified men on a motorcycle had fired multiple rounds at Raj Mandir Hypermarket in Meera Bagh Block A in Paschim Vihar at 2.23 pm on November 6. Two hours later, three bike-borne men opened fire at a motor vehicle workshop in Najafgarh. The police had then said the same men, allegedly from the Nandu gang, were suspected to be involved in both incidents. An officer said the hypermarket owner had recently received extortion calls from Kapil Sangwan, 32, an alleged criminal with links to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. None
