Samantha Ruth Prabhu admits to making professional missteps; shoots down body-shaming comment: ‘I accept failure’

Following her myositis diagnosis and subsequent hiatus from the film industry for treatment, South Indian star Samantha Ruth Prabhu is set to return to the screen, playing the lead role in the spy-action streaming series Citadel: Honey Bunny . A spin-off to the American series of the same title , which was headlined by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Samantha will be seen sharing the screen with Varun Dhawan in the upcoming series created by Sita R Menon and Raj & DK. The actor has high hopes for Citadel, especially given Raj & DK’s involvement as they previously gave her a highly impactful role in the second season of their The Family Man (2021), following which none of Samantha’s works or performances have been well-received. Acknowledging that she wasn’t able to give her best in her recent works, the 37-year-old actor also admitted to making a few missteps professionally, despite her ongoing efforts to improve with each project. During an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Instagram, a fan enquired, “Can you tell us how hard you have worked for Citadel and what your character would look like?” In response, she said, “I made a promise to myself that I will challenge myself with every role that I pick. Each challenge is more difficult than the last one.” Check out | Inside R Madhavan’s Dubai home as he hosts Ajith for Diwali celebrations “I agree, I made some mistakes in the past; things haven’t really worked out, and I accept failure. I accept that I might not have done my best in the last few films,” she said. Nonetheless, Samantha stated that she’s very proud of her work in Citadel even before its release. “It is the most layered, complicated and challenging role of my career. But I’ll let you be the judge of that,” she added. During the session, Samantha also responded to a netizen who body-shamed her by ‘advising’ her to “gain some weight.” Rolling her eyes, she replied, “Another weight comment; I saw an entire thread about my weight. If you guys must know, I am on a strict anti-inflammatory diet which is required for my condition (myositis), which prevents me from putting on weight, keeps in a certain weight bracket and keeps me in a sweet spot with my condition. Stop judging people. Let them be… Live and let live, guys. it’s 2024!” Our Queen @Samanthaprabhu2 spoke about the hard work she put into the character of ‘Honey’ for #CitadelHoneyBunny and how the character would look! 🙌💥 #CITADEL #CitadelHoneyBunnyOnPrime #Samantha #SamanthaRuthPrabhu pic.twitter.com/YlO8Qj96Jo — Samantha FC || TWTS™ (@Teamtwts2) November 4, 2024 At a time when many of her peers are launching skincare brands, Samantha stated she has no interest in joining that trend. “The reason why I will not come up with a skincare line is because… I really need to use the products that I sell to you and I use a lot of products,” she said. Pointing to her face, the actor added, “Trust me, this is not easy. It is high maintenance! Unless I come up with a magical product which is also not tough on your pocket, I will not be launching a skincare line.” Also starring Prabhu, Kay Kay Menon, Saqib Saleem, Shivankit Parihar, Sohum Mazumdar, Sikander Kher and Simran Bagga, Citadel: Honey Bunny has been developed by Sita R Menon and helmed by Raj & DK.
