Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, who recently announced his next film I Want To Talk with Abhishek Bachchan, fondly recalled the time he first met Shah Rukh Khan in Delhi when the superstar was still a theatre actor. The director shared that he was part of the same theatre group as Shah Rukh, and witnessed his budding romance with his now-wife, Gauri Khan . Speaking on the YouTube channel UNFILTERED by Samdish, Shoojit shared, “Shah Rukh I know from theatre group, he was in Barry John group. I was there, I didn’t do plays with him, I was there with them.” He added, “Connaught Place mein jagah hai Depaul’s Cafe, woh wahan aata tha… Gauri [Khan] ke saath coffee peene… Romance karte dekha hai, play main maine nahi dekha (There is a place called Depaul’s Cafe and he used to go there with Gauri. I have seen him romance but I have never seen his plays).” Earlier, during an interaction on Rajat Sharma’s show Aap Ki Adalat, Shah Rukh Khan had revealed that Gauri was his first-ever crush. He recalled how he fell head over heels for Gauri when he first met her at a party. “ Mera first crush Gauri thi (my first crush was Gauri). She was 14 then, and I was 18. I met her at a party (in Delhi). She was the first girl who spoke to me for more than three seconds. I was so encouraged by her gesture that… Ehi kudi leni hai (I have to be with this girl only).” Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri have now been married for 33 years. They welcomed their eldest son, Aryan Khan, six years after their wedding, followed by their daughter Suhana, who was born on May 22, 2000.
