For the past few weeks, rumours have been swirling that director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s upcoming actioner Coolie , starring “Superstar” Rajinikanth in the lead role, might feature a cameo by Bollywood icon Aamir Khan. The film already boasts an impressive cast, including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan and Sathyaraj, and reports of Aamir’s involvement have only heightened excitement among audiences. Now, Lokesh himself has addressed these speculations. In a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter India , he was asked if Aamir is indeed part of the project. In response, the director said, “Whatever characters that have been revealed till now, has been done by the production house. So, I have nothing to say about that (the rumour).” When the interviewer pointed out that he hadn’t ruled out the possibility, Lokesh replied with a laugh, “It could be some other actor also, right? Someone from another state or country? These are just rumours and speculations, let them talk.” Aamir and Rajinikanth previously worked together in the Hindi film Aatank Hi Aatank (1995). I am a huge fan of Aamir Khan sir. When Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) released, he called me when he was in Chennai. We met and I watched the film with him and gave him my feedback. After that, whenever I get some time when in Mumbai or when sir was here in Chennai the last time, we met and talked about films. There are chances (for a project wherein they join forces), but I have prior commitments here. If everything goes well then, obviously,” he added. Aamir Khan has been on a break since the debacle of Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of the 1994 American film Forrest Gump. He will next be seen in RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par , which will hit the screens next month. Lokesh is currently working on Coolie and has completed two schedules over a span of 50 days.
