TCS headcount rises, attrition too increases slightly

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) reported an increase in its headcount for the second consecutive quarter during the July-September period. The company saw its headcount increase by 5,726 sequentially, ending the quarter with a total headcount of 612,724. With this, the company has so far made a net addition of over 11,000 employees in the first two quarters of FY25. This comes after TCS had ended fiscal 2024 with 13,249 fewer employees compared to financial year 2023, a downturn that was also the first in two decades. “We welcomed 11,000 associates in the first half of the year, and we remain on track for trainee on-boarding as planned… Our strong talent base and increased learning intensity prepares us well for the complex technology transformations that customers entrust us with,” Milind Lakkad, chief HR officer, said. “This year, we have more than doubled our intake of higher-cadre trainees and the training intensity has increased across the organisation,” Lakkad added. Meanwhile, the company’s attrition rate increased 20 bps to 12.3% during the period after remaining on downward trajectory for seven quarters. TCS’ attrition had hit a multi-year high of 21.5% in the second quarter of fiscal 2023. Further, TCS plans to hire about 40,000 freshers in fiscal 2025 and has already commenced the campus hiring process for fiscal 2026. In the June quarter the company had on-boarded 11,000 freshers. Unlike in previous quarters, there were no delays in on-boarding fresher talent in Q1 and the company hoped to maintain this trend through FY25. None
